How Your Reusable Bottle Gives Back: NuRich and the Mulberry River Project

Every reusable bottle you fill is a small act of environmental repair: Americans purchase about 50 billion single-use plastic water bottles a year — roughly 13 per person per month — and switching to one reusable bottle saves an average of 156 of them annually (Earthday.org). The other seven out of ten end up in landfills, incinerators, or loose in the environment — where rivers act as the collection system that carries them downstream.

Why a river, specifically

Waterways are where plastic waste stops being abstract. Litter dropped miles away washes into creeks with the first hard rain, and creeks feed rivers. That is why NuRich adopted the Mulberry River, close to home in Winder, Georgia, as the focus of our giving. It is a working river — people fish it, paddle it, and draw their sense of place from it — and it collects everything the surrounding watershed sheds. Supporting cleanups and conservation there means the impact of your bottle is concrete and local, not a vague donation to "the environment."

How your bottle funds the work

The model is simple: NuRich sells insulated bottles and accessories, and a portion of what we earn goes back into protecting the Mulberry River. There is no separate donation button and no premium "charity edition" — the giving is built into the products you were already going to buy.
